Thailand Discovering

General

Thailand (Pra-ted-thai) is a country at South-East Asia, with the coats of Andaman sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Thailand was originally names Siam until 1932, the change of a country to democracy led to the name of Thailand as present.

Thailand is governed under the Constitutional Monarchy. Our beloved King Bhumibol Adulyadej was throw into the throne since June 9, 1946. In 2006, the 60th anniversary to the throne of King Bhumipol was celebrated and he is serving the longest monarch in the world.

There are 76 provinces in Thailand with the population of 65, 000, 000 approximately. The provinces are lies down into different geography; Northern Thailand, Northeastern Thailand (I-san), Central Thailand, Eastern Thailand and Southern Thailand. 95% of us are the Buddhists and the rest of us are Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Hindus, and other religions. Thailand is a country which has always extended the freedom of beliefs and religions.

Thai is an official language but still there are the different dialects; the Northern Thai, the Northeastern Thai (I-san), the Central Thai and the Southern Thai. Our currency is Thai baht. Our flag represents “Nation, Religion, King” in 3 different colors in order; red, white and blue. Our national anthem is called “Phleng Chat”. In an area of 514, 000 km2, the look of a map we recognize it as a golden ax. The neighbor countries of Thailand are Laos and Cambodia at the east, Malaysia at south and Burma at west.

The local climate is tropical and influenced by monsoons. There is a rainy, warm and cloudy southwest monsoon from mid-May to September. As well as it’s also a dry, cool northeast monsoon from November to mid-March. The southern isthmus of Thailand is always hot and humid.

Bangkok (Krung Thep) is a capital city of Thailand, the population of 10, 000, 000 approximately. Bangkok is located at the central of Thailand. It's found on the banks of Chao Phra-ya river, the longest river which runs into the Gulf of Thailand. The city’s wealth of cultural sites makes it one of the world’s most popular city to the tourists to visit.
